He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Hawes and Mary Hawes; and his brother Thomas Hawes. He is survived by: his wife Chris Bramlett-Hawes (Somerville); and his children, Michael Hawes, Sean Hawes (Lisa), Matthew Hawes, Tracy Kreutzer, Kimberly Provost (Chris), Jennifer DeSnyder (Stelio) and Laura Bramlett. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, niece, nephews, as well as several other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to American Legion Post 382 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12.
