He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Schmidt and Lazeldia Schmidt (Diffin); his wife Sandra (Powell); his grandson Christopher Sanchez; and his brother-in-law Don Turner.

He is survived by: his children, Debra Schmidt (Dale Beischer), James Schmidt and April Schmidt (Carl); his grandsons, Troy Sanchez and Sam Therrien; his great grandchild Fabian Sanchez; his sister Margaret Turner; and his sister-in-law Virginia Wellman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
