He was predeceased by: his parents, Percival Shagena and Lucille Shagena (McDonough); his son Steven Shagena; his sister Mary Kris Wiltse; and his brother-in-law Chuck Nolton.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Shagena (Ritner); his children, Maureen Sanger (Charles), Glenn Shagena (Ulrike Hildebrand) and Mark Shagena (Thomasine Gorry); his grandchildren, Maggie Sanger, Lauren Shagena, Matt Shagena, Ford Sanger, Elizabeth Shagena and Jack Shagena; his sisters, Margaret Jo Shubel (Bill), Linda Shagena (Charles Nolton), Pamela Clous (Fred) and Deborah Shagena (Gordon Hedeen); and his brother-in-law Bob Wiltse. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Rose Hill Center in Holly, Michigan.
