He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Adolph Near and Clarice Near (Sims); his wife Debra Dora; his grandfathers, Geek and Melvin Stuart; his children, Melvin Near (Jessie), Jason Near (Mistie Kalka), Jeremy Near, Dale Near (Windy), Becki Politte (Scott), Darlene Cook (David), Andy Near (Bobby-Jo) and Misty Sippola (Dwight); his grandchildren, Jason, Jayde, Melvin, Alex, Zack, Cody, Ryan, Anthony, Brandon, Sadie, Mason, Cole, Faith, Hunter, Brooke, Logan, Maverick, Wyatt, Harlyn and Toby; his great grandchildren, Charlie, Emma, Peyton and Harper; his siblings, Allen Near, Bob Near, Dawn Weiss (Leonard) and Tim Near (Carolyn); his siblings-in-law, Connie Hantula (Daryl), Penny Krutz (Larry) and Matthew Dora; his pets, Milo of Hailey, DJ and Sassy; his former wife Darlene; his sisters-in-law, Sharon and Vicki; and his parents-in-law, Edward Dora and Florence McConnell. He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family prefers memorial contributions be made in Melvin's name to his family for future designation.
