Robert John Denstedt Obituary
Robert "Bob" Denstedt, age 75, of St Ignace, Michigan, passed away surrounded by family on June 1st, 2023.
Robert was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 30th, 1947, to Rudolph and Ruth Denstedt. He graduated from Cody High School in Detroit. He joined the US Navy in December of 1966. During his four years of service with the US Navy, he fought in Vietnam for 32 months. He received Medals and Commendations for his service, including the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Unit Commendation, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Robert was married to his second wife, Alice, on April 3rd, 1999; they were married for 24 years.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Alice; sister Barb (Tom) Malbouef, brother Ron (Jeanie) Denstedt; bonus sister, Joanne Zavisa; children, Amy Denstedt, Timothy Denstedt, Carrie (Jon) Marlow, Christine Denstedt, and Erick (Jamie) Kalter Sr.; grandchildren Zachary Darkowski, Nickolas Svenson, Kayla Darkowski, Taylor Scovelli, Caleb Scovelli, Erick Kalter Jr, and Kaelynn Kalter.
General Motors employed Robert for 31 years. Following his retirement, he worked for the Henry Ford Museum, USPS, Sears, and a few other local businesses to keep himself busy.
He always loved spending time with his family and looked forward to their shenanigans. He loved writing editorials for The Detroit Free Press, Canton Observer, and the local St Ignace paper. He enjoyed collecting Classic Cars, including two Fire Trucks from Mackinac Island, and finally found and purchased his crown jewel - a 1929 Model A Ford. His many friends in St. Ignace jokingly referred to him as " The Jay Leno of St. Ignace.". He has always been an animal lover - especially Old English Sheepdogs.
The visitation and service will be held on Tuesday, June 6th, at LJ Griffin Funeral Home in Canton, Mi. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, with the service at 4:00 pm. Burial and Military Honors will be on Wednesday, June 7th, at 11:00 am at Great Lakes Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Michigan Humane Society https://www.michiganhumane.org or Disabled Veterans of America https://www.dav.org. In addition, the family of Robert Denstedt wishes to thank Elara Caring Hospice, the Ann Arbor VA Hospital, and the University of Michigan Hospital for all their comfort and care during this time.
