He was predeceased by: his wife Jeanne Marie (Busha); his brothers, Richard and John; and his sisters-in-law, Maureen (Michael) and Giselle (John).

He is survived by: his children, Nicholette Giles (Paul), Mary Lee Hemstrom (Gunnar) and Paul LaFontaine (Caroline); his grandchildren, Gunnar III (Alexandra), Samuel, Charles (Jennifer), Alexander (Miranda), Colin (Victoria), Katie (Josh Stephens), Ayrton (Crystal), Ian, Jack, Emma, Sophia (Mason Fuerst) and Olivia; his great grandchildren, Sullivan and Ada; his brothers, Fred LaFontaine (Patricia), Gordon LaFontaine (Eileen), Michael LaFontaine and Daniel LaFontaine (Mary Jane); and his sisters-in-law, Constance LaFontaine (Richard) and Marilyn Boucher. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
