He was predeceased by: his parents, August and Hannah (Bahrke); his wife Janet Bruning; and his grandson Rick Schalk Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Cynthia Zavada (Ray) of Fenton, Rick Schalk (Sandra) of Wayne, Candace Smith (Ken) of Florida, Jack Schalk of California, Todd Schalk (Jan) of Louisiana and Carrie Schleben (Jim) of Rogers City; his sister Deloris Longpre (Ken); and his grandchildren, Scott, Matt, Mark, Amber, Jami, Jennifer, Jodi, Janae, Tonya, Emily and Shelby. He is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Memorials are suggested to McLaren Hospice, or Peace Lutheran Church.
