She was predeceased by: her sister Barb Smoes; and her mother Gertrude VanderKolk (Kamps). She is survived by: her husband Donald Charles Lillie; her father Edward VanderKolk; her siblings, Kathy VanderKolk, Mary Handrich (Ted), Charlie VanderKolk (Bonnie) and Amy Steenstra (Eric); and her brother-in-law Dale Smoes (Jane). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, October 4th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, October 5th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, October 5th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Magnify Church (6727 Kuttshill Dr NE, Rockford, MI 49341).

Kay felt "music is the universal language," therefore, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra.
