He was predeceased by: his parents, Vern Nielsen and Lillian Nielsen (Pritchard); and his siblings, J. C. Nielsen, Thorval Nielsen (Bo), Victor Nielsen, Arlene Burns and Nina Middleton.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis; his children, Deborah Nielsen, Diane Nielsen, Raymond Nielsen and Rodney Nielsen (Teresa); his grandchildren, Austin Fohlbrook, Alex Fohlbrook, Tyler Nielsen (Lindsey), Brandon Nielsen, Dylan Nielsen, Felicia Pike (Joshua), A. J. Donati and Kassie Daily (Charles); his great grandchild Jensen Pike; his siblings, Walter Nielsen, Gene Nielsen (Shirley) and Karen Deyman; and his siblings-in-law, Sharon Nielsen, Robert Eldred (Jan) and Keith Eldred (Diane). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Courtland Township Fire Department or Rockford Ambulance.
