Lois June (Clark) Reed Obituary
Lois June Reed of Rochester Hills, Michigan, age 87 passed away Friday, October 9, 2020. Lois was a loving wife to Robert James Reed who passed away in 2011. Married in 1949, they spent 62 happy years together.
Lois was a wonderful mother to Rick, Steve, Keith, Ron and Jeff. The oldest son, Rick, was born when Lois was 17, and she had 3 more sons by age 21. Lois always wanted a girl in the family when surprisingly she had son number five, Jeff, at age 37. The young Reed clan would fill a pew at church with Lois keeping each of the boys in line with first, “the look” and if needed, an encouraging pinch to pay attention! God knew Lois was a strong woman and could stand her own when up against the six men in her family!
Keith and Jeff reside in Michigan, Steve in Somerset, Kentucky and Ron in Phoenix, Arizona. Her oldest son, Rick, of Rochester, MI predeceased her in July of this year.
Lois was born in Xenia, Ohio February 23, 1933 to Clarence and Alpha Clark. She had an older brother, Paul Clark, and a younger sister Wilma (Clark) Barrette. The family eventually migrated to Detroit, Michigan where Lois worked at her mother’s soda fountain and grill called Alpha’s Sweet Shoppe located across the street from Denby High School. She also worked as a department store clerk, hotel housekeeper and podiatrist assistant for many years.
After marrying, Bob and Lois raised their family and lived in Detroit until 1985 when they moved to Warren, Michigan. After Bob’s death, Lois moved to Rochester Hills where she spent her remaining years, close to family.
First and foremost, Lois loved her family and was a strong moral influence. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and preparing meals spending time with her family around her. Phone calls with Lois often centered on what she was preparing for dinner that day. Her laugh was contagious and she was often brought to tears with uncontrollable laughter. Lois sang in the choir and enjoyed any and all music. If music was playing she was singing along and often dancing or tapping her feet. She brought joy to all that had the privilege of knowing her.
Lois is survived by her sons Steve (Linda), Keith (Betty), Ron (Sharon) and Jeff (Martha) and daughter-in-law Cindy. Grandchildren, Beth (John Walton) Laura (Scott Davidson) Matt Reed (Jessi Ring), Ryan Reed (Amanda) Tyler, Brett, Abbie, Justin, Austin, Bella, Emma. Cooper and Ruby, all Reeds. Great-grandchildren Sophia, Luciana, Rocco, and Maddy. Lois is predeceased by her parents, Alpha and Clarence Clark, and siblings, Paul Clark (Ruth) and Wilma Barrette (Bob). She is also predeceased by her son, Rick and grandson, Brian. She leaves many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Celebration of Life and Internment was conducted at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East on October 15, 2020.
In Lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations can be made to the Corpore Sano Hospice Organization, in honor of Lois.
