He was predeceased by: his parents, William Gerber and Signe Gerber; his wife Manya Gerber; and his siblings, Bertram Gerber, Bill Gerber, Ben Gerber, Kay Getson and Irma Gerber.

He is survived by: his children, David John Gerber (Ruth), Lisa Marie Plancke and Mary Jo Hickey (Daniel P.); his grandchildren, Lindsay, Fran, Caroline, Paul Hickey (Kate), Emma Hickey and Benjamin Hickey; his great grandchildren, Max Hickey and Samantha Hickey; and his sister Margaret Cunningham.
