He was predeceased by: his mother Mildred Gilbert (Smith); and his sister Nancy Chouinard. He is survived by: his father Russell Gilbert; his wife Susan Gilbert (Longstreth); his daughters, Heather Dickinson (Eric) of Grand Rapids and Gretchen Howard (Jason) of Greer; his grandchildren, Drew Dickinson and Tyler Dickinson; and his siblings, Richard Gilbert (Robbie), Ruth Jacobs (Tom), Karen Wheaton (Matt) and Janet Strickler (Ron). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
