Richard E. Hansen Obituary
A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Friday, August 23, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Richard will be interred at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park privately. Memorial contributions may be made to Compassus Hospice and Kairos Dwelling, c/o the funeral home.
Age 88, of Richland, passed away at Kairos Dwelling on August 14, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Richard was born in Climax, MI, on August 28, 1935, the son of the late Hans and Amy (Daniels) Hansen. He graduated from Climax High School, Class of 1954, and went on to earn an Engineering Degree from Battle Creek Community College. Richard served as a city fireman in Battle Creek and later transferred to the VA Medical Center where he was the Fire Chief. During his time there he was promoted to be the Head of Engineering and retired after more than thirty years of service. Richard also became involved in the Battle Creek community and was a member of the Battle Creek Commandry, Scottish Rite and the Knights of Columbus. When not working he loved playing golf, bowling, fishing and hunting. Above all Richard loved his family and was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always made the effort to be involved in important moments of their life. Richard's kindness, commitment and generosity will be missed by all who loved him. In 1973, he married the love of his life, Clarissa (Tinklenberg) Hansen who survives. He is also survived by a son, Scott Hansen; seven grandchildren, Jason (Tara) Sebolt, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Blank, Trina Hoogstraten, Jessica (Neil) McGrath, Jacklyn (Robert) Holman, Samantha (Josh) Kirkbride, Steven Hansen; multiple great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Richard was also preceded in passing by two children, Steven and Roxanne Hansen and a sister, Janice Lloyd.
