He was predeceased by: his parents, Merle Hyde and Norma Hyde; his grandson Garrett Hughston; his stepfather Ken McLaughlin; his brothers, Richard Hyde, Phillip Hyde, Gilbert Hyde and Ron Hyde; and his siblings-in-law, Lloyd Mayes, Dennis Miller and Florence Hyde.

He is survived by: his wife Wanda "Kay" Spencer; his children, Tracy Gardner (Butch) of Hersey and Todd Hyde (Julie) of Pittsboro; his grandchildren, Tim Hyde, Josh Hughston, Chris Hyde, Kelsey Moore, Becka Brown and George Gardner; his siblings, Dean Hyde (Jean) and Kathy Miller; and his sisters-in-law, Jane Hyde, Margie Hyde, Maggie Hyde and Jean Mayes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
