He was predeceased by : his parents, Leland Monroe and Donnabell Monroe (Hurford); his siblings, Flossie Cox and Emmett Monroe; his former life partner Sue May; and his stepfather John DeForest.

He is survived by : his son William Monroe; his brother Rex Monroe (DeeAnn); his stepsister Myerl DeForest; his former life partner Melanie Bailey; his nieces and nephews, Chris Monroe (Elizabeth), Amber Monroe, Emmett Monroe II, Donna Moore and James Cox; and his close friends, Mike and Geneva Strobel.
