He was predeceased by: his parents, Leland Monroe and Donnabell Monroe (Hurford); his siblings, Flossie Cox and Emmett Monroe; his former wife Sue May; and his stepfather John DeForest.

He is survived by: his son William Monroe; his brother Rex Monroe (DeeAnn); his stepsister Myerl DeForest; his former wife Melanie Bailey; his nieces and nephews, Chris Monroe (Elizabeth), Amber Monroe, Emmett Monroe II, Donna Moore and James Cox; and his close friends, Mike and Geneva Strobel.
