He was predeceased by: his parents, James Smullen and Eolyn Smullen (Boon); his son Jeff Smullen; and his siblings, James "Sonny" Smullen, Jr., Joseph Smullen, Eleanor Kaiser and Joyce Ernsburger.

He is survived by: his wife Rose McKim; his children, Donna Smullen, Harold Smullen, Jr., David Thrasher (Kimberly) of Sugarland, TX and Kimberlee Woellert (Nicholas) of Quincy; his sisters, Jeanette Kubasiak of Coldwater, Joann Herman of Coldwater and Sallie Pope (Don) of Coldwater; his grandchildren, Melissa, Jason Pellegrino, Breanna McCalla, Ashely Hanath (Troy), Taylor, Erin Duncklee, Dillen, Lisa Woellert and Jeffary Smullen; and his great grandchildren, Shelby, Colby, Lacey Hanath, Dominic, Shealynn and Kaysie Pellegrino.
