He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Gwilt and Louise Gwilt (Crane); and his siblings, Charles "Ed" Gwilt, Mearl Gwilt, Earnest Gwilt and Arthur Gwilt.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Gwilt (Lanz) of Portland; his children, Steve Gwilt (Lisa), Becky Chissus, Robert Gwilt, Thomas Gwilt and Deb Williams (Jeff); his grandchildren, Natascha DeStefano (Christopher), Nathan Bussell (Keziah), Chelsey Miller (Kenny), Lisa Eisenga (Derek), Michael Chissus (Kelley), Adrianne Reum (Paul), Emily Gwilt, Tyler Gwilt, Claire Gwilt, Jacob Williams (Sara) and Sarah Randall (Mark); and his daughter-in-law Lori Gwilt.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions to First Baptist Church in Portland or City Rescue Mission of Lansing.
