He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Theis and Catherine Theis (Schmitt); his wife JoAnn; his son-in-law Mike Rutherford; and his siblings, Mary Smith, Henry Theis and Catherine Haeck.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Theis (Beth) of Portland, Sandy Rutherford of Westfield, IN and Steven Theis (Sparky Mowery) of Dimondale; his grandchildren, Kelli Servizzi (John), Eric Rutherford (Trisha), Brian Theis (Erin), Jessica Simon (Jake) and Ashley Klein (Kyle); and his sisters, Rose Kolp, Josephine Fox and Chris Smith. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 29th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Lehman Funeral Homes (210 E Bridge St, Portland, MI 48875). A rosary was held on Wednesday, January 29th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, January 30th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the St. Patrick Catholic Church (520 W Grand River Ave, Portland, MI 48875).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Parish or the Soup Project in Portland.
