He was predeceased by: his father Fricis Smidchens; his wife Ilze Smidchens; his siblings, Indulis Smidchens and Dace Friss (Harijs); and his son-in-law Dr. Vinay Reddy.
He is survived by: his children, Laila Kalnins (Valdis), Laura Smidchens and Eriks Smidchens; his grandchildren, Roberts, Viktors Kalnins, Magdalena, Annika and Sabine Smidchens; and his sister-in-law Ilze Smidchens.
