He was predeceased by: his parents, Clark Platt and Florabelle Platt (Mundt); his brother Wes Platt; and his niece Melissa Tsunemori. He is survived by: his wife Sandie Platt; his daughters, Richonda Goldsmith (Carl) of Lombard, IL, Monica Metty (Ross) of Climax, MI and Jessica Fox (Gary) of Blythewood, SC; his grandchildren, Kenzie, Paige Goldsmith, Ethan, Sienna Metty, Maci and Jaxson Fox; his siblings, Joyce Platt (Mike), Nancy Goodyear (Dave) and Dave Platt; and his sister-in-law Sharon Platt. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to one of the following organizations in Don's name: Habitat for Humanity, Centrica Care Navigators (formerly Hospice Care of SW Michigan) or the University of Michigan Brain Bank.
