He was predeceased by: his parents, James Scagel and Ruth Scagel; and his brother James Scagel. He is survived by: his wife Marie Dunn; and his children, Susan Filauro (Ronald), Lynne Trombley-Walker and Scott Trombley. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
