He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell L. DeFrain and Gladys A. DeFrain. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Miller; his children, Karen A. Reif, Robert F. DeFrain (Astrid) and Richard L. DeFrain (Patricia); and his brothers, Norman and Douglas DeFrain. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
