He was predeceased by: his parents, Lavina Ferguson Schmidt and Edwin R. Schmidt; and his siblings, Robert Duncan, Danice Fleming, Patricia Baird, Virgilene Spencer and Kate Wilson.
He is survived by: his wife Ellen; his children, Helen Renee Trenoweth, Robert Charles Schmidt and Rachel A. Schmidt-Ramirez (Arturo Ramirez); and his grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Jessica Trenoweth, Taylor Friedle, Sarah, Karla, Maya and Romario Ramirez.
