He is survived by: his children, Betty Burghardt (Greg) of Clio and Rick Schmaltz (Jane) of Davison; his grandsons, Jason Burghardt, Justin Schmaltz (Brittany) and Brad Schmaltz; his great grandchildren, Taylor, Emily and Christopher; and his siblings, Howard Schmaltz (Lillian) of Flint, Janet Weiss (Rodney) of Port Hope and Nancy Osentoski (Ken) of Port Hope. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
