He was predeceased by: his mother Lela Marie; his stepfather Maurice E. Middlebrook; his father William Francis Shaughnessy Sr.; his great grandchildren, Evan Latter and Molly Merx; his sister Janet L. Shaughnessy; and his former wife Renee Middlebrook.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jennifer Merx, Laura Cain and Tammy Wernet (Eric); and his siblings, William F. Shaughnessy (Violet) and Darlene M. Ramsey (Eric). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.
