Dorothy Marie Kopka, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 87, in the warm and caring environment of Huron Woods Nursing Center. Born on September 10, 1937, to the late Irving and Anna (Blair) Earll in Pinconning, Michigan.
Dorothy's life was a testament to the values of faith, family, and community. Dorothy's journey through life was one marked by enduring love and partnership. She married Anthony Kopka Jr., the love of her life, on January 15, 1955, at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Their marriage was blessed by 62 years until Anthony's passing on June 13, 2017. Together, they built a foundation of love and commitment that would stand the test of time. The proud matriarch of a loving family, Dorothy is survived by her devoted children, Karen (Dennie) Tremble and Kellie (Gene) Hine. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Sarah LeVasseur, Stephanie Schweinsberg, Shela (Denny) Johnson, Jeremy (Karen) Tremble, Adam (Connie) Tremble, Robert (Shannon) Tremble, Shawn (Christine) Tremble, Grant Hine, and Kristen Hine. She was also the adored great-grandmother to 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Her sister, Sandy Wehr, remains to honor Dorothy's memory. She was predeceased by her parents, beloved husband, daughter Kim Kopka, son Anthony Kopka III, and sister Shirley (William) Stanton.
Dorothy's life was a rich tapestry woven with the threads of dedication and service. Recognized as the epitome of a homemaker, she raised her family with unwavering love and devotion. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, and she imparted this through teaching catechism and her active involvement in numerous churches. Dorothy's commitment to her community was evident in her willingness to organize social gatherings and assist with luncheons, always ensuring that those around her felt welcomed and valued. Her professional life included a successful stint as a real estate agent, where she applied her considerable people skills and knowledge to help many find their dream homes. However, it was her hobbies and personal interests that truly reflected the joy Dorothy found in everyday life. A creative soul, she found pleasure in crafting, making dolls, and sewing. Her love for adventure and the great outdoors shone through her enjoyment of camping and playing cards. The library was a sanctuary for her, a place where she could indulge in her love for reading and learning. Above all, Dorothy's family was the axis around which her world spun. She instilled in them values that will be cherished and passed down through generations. Her children and grandchildren will carry forward the legacy of her faith-filled, loving, and selfless nature.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 11 am from Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Matthew Federico presiding with cremation to follow with inurnment in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Thursday, from 10 am until time of mass. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Vincent DePaul of Roscommon so the family may make a donation in Dorothys honor.
