He was predeceased by: his parents, William Schafer and Esther Schafer (Wirth); his sisters, Cornelia Keilen, Julie Atkins and Alice Spitzley (Roy); and his brother-in-law Joseph Lenneman.
He is survived by: his wife Doreen Schafer (Kesler); his daughter Gina Schafer; his siblings, Julianne Lenneman, Paul Schafer (Ruth), Michael Schafer (Janice) and Charles Schafer (Sue); and his parents-in-law, James Keilen, Pauline Druschel (Richard), Paul Kesler (Ella Madsen), Stephen Kesler (Marilyn), Douglas Kesler (Carole Hockeborn) and Michael Kesler (Marge). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and their spouses.
