He was predeceased by: his parents, John Atten and Mary Reichart Atten; and his former wife Anne. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Atten; his children, John Atten (Kay), Mary Jo Atten, James Atten, Anne Johnson (Marc), Charles Colwell (Susan), Stephen Colwell (Marci) and Kent Colwell (Jennifer); and his grandchildren, Dana Smith, Chris Atten, Lauren Worley, Blake Atten, Michael, Daniel Atten, Ryan, Jack Johnson, Henry, Peter, Samuel, Addie, Will and Elise Colwell. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
