He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Meinert and Della Meinert (Montague); and his brothers, William and Richard Meinert. He is survived by: his wife Judy Meinert (Neuhaus); his children, Kimberly Swindeman (Scott), Kelly Masters, Karen Klumm, James Jr. (Kathleen) and Timothy Meinert (Pamela); and his sister-in-law Beverly Meinert. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
