He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil and Donna; and his brother Richard Bates. He is survived by: his son Troy "Honora" Bates; his grandson Andrew Bates; his great grandchildren, Bryce and Connor Bates; and his siblings, Linda "Ernie" Wilson, Marilyn "Bob" McCready and Randall Bates.
