He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Sweeney and Dorothy Sweeney; and his sister Joan Hammond. He is survived by: his wife Joanne Maguire; his children, Dr. Linda Balogh (Michael) of Novi, Laura Keoppen of Oxford and Jeffrey Sweeney (Sheryl) of Midland; his grandchildren, Katlyn, Meghan, Ryan Sweeney, David, Jacob Keoppen, Zachary and Joshua Balogh; and his sisters, Dolores Sweeney (Tody) of Oxford and Nancy Kubisch (Dieter) of Crowley, Texas.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
