He is survived by: his spouse Shirley Laughlin; his daughter Cheryl Lynn Caperton-McEwen; his grandson James McEwen II of Otsego; his sisters, Joan Romans of Arkansas and Yvonne Clay of Texas; and his nephew Dan Lott of Martin.
