He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hier and Ann Hier (Eismann). He is survived by: his wife Barbara Kuchnicki; his son Christopher Hier (Aimee); his grandchildren, Abby, CJ and Maggie; and his siblings, Kenneth Hier (Shirley), Stephen Hier, Frances Westerholm (Alan) and Edward Hier (Nancy). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alpena Community College or Alzheimer's Association.
