He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Tonkel and Mabel Tonkel (Vanhountan); his daughter Wonda McMicheal (Tonkel); and his siblings, Gene Tonkel, Orlo Tonkel and Phyllis Helvie.
He is survived by: his wife Juanita Bellmann; his children, Dennis Tonkel (Connie) of Osseo, Cindy Wyatt of Osseo, John Schelling (Deb) of Osseo, Theresa Rutan (Jon-Paul) of Hillsdale and Lora Mitchell (Les) of Montpelier, OH; and his stepbrother Gary Brigle of Montgomery. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
