It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lee D. Mertz of Oscoda, Michigan, born in Detroit, Michigan, who passed away on October 24, 2021, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Mertz and Lillian Mertz (Simko); and his brother William. He is survived by: his wife Mary Hopcroft; his children, Kalee Lipovsky (Jim) of Fairfield, NE, Dana Hatfield (Zach) of Weidman, MI, Ryan Mertz (Hannah) of Oscoda, Jeffrey Mertz (Andrea) of Grand Blanc, MI and Michael Mertz (Whitney) of Commerce Township, MI.; his grandchildren, Brendan, Coree, Gavin, Carter Lipovsky, Quinn, Lexi, Cuyler Hatfield, Sienna, Isley, Eleanora, Lillian, Alyse, Evan and Maven Mertz; his brothers, Eugene Mertz (Diane), Gary Mertz (Dianne) and Martin Mertz (Ann); his siblings-in-law, Linda Mertz, Ann Victoria Hopcroft, Ellen Merriken, Jane Whitford (Terry) and Mickie Lee (Sherry); and also Belinda Schlesener. He is also survived by Many cousins, nieces and nephews survive as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
As a continuation of his efforts to help others, Lee and his family will provide a donation to support research, understanding and treatment of Lewy-Body dementia.
