He was predeceased by: his father Gerald Smith; and his stepparents, Joanne Smith and Clyne "Ted" Durst. He is survived by: his mother Joan Louise Smith (Laser) of Adrian; his wife Laura Jean Clapper; his children, Justin Smith (Amy) of Mason, Trevor Smith (Kristin) of Ocean Springs, MS and Marisa Carpenter (Pete) of Ypsilanti; his siblings, Kathie Williams of Saline, Gregory Smith of Kalamazoo and Jennifer Neff (Brian) of Denver, CO; and his stepsiblings, Connie Durst, Cindy Durst, Chuck Durst and Craig Durst. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren.
