She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, William J. Malay and Bernice Malay (Eberts); her husband John "Carl" Merrick; her sons, Mike Merrick (Jill) of Rogers City, David Merrick (Kim) of Texas and Bob Merrick (Lori) of Cheboygan; her son-in-law Jim Ziegler of Cheboygan; her brother Jim Malay (Sue) of St. Louis, Missouri; her sister-in-law Ann Marie "Cookie" Malay of Black Lake; her daughter Sue Ziegler; and her siblings, John Malay and Sally Masserant.
