He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Burgess and Ethel Burgess (Pierce); and his stepfather Bob Campbell. He is survived by: his wife Joan Boughner of Onaway; his children, Craig Burgess of California, Cory Burgess (Mary) of Onaway, Jack Burgess of Onaway and Shiloh McCarthy of Onaway; and his brothers, John Burgess (Carol) of Lansing, Larry Burgess of Cheboygan and Ken Burgess (Annette) of Onaway.
