He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Shears and Vernie Shears (Porter); and his siblings, Harriet Hamblin, Francis Sheffield, Mildred Thompson, Charles Lewis and Jack.
He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Stark; his children, Eva, Sharon Russell (Lance), Bonnie Shears, Dean Shears (Karen) and Toni Shears; his grandchildren, Kelli VanZweden (Steve), Joel Gronevelt (Kayla), Christina Black (Todd) and Michael Russell (Jubalee); and his siblings, Agnes Metzgar and Donald Shears (Glo). He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
