“I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my old friend Bob Paulen. We became friends our first year of optometry school, I believe it was the first week of school. Such a great guy to be around. Had such good times together. I remember when I was celebrating Indiana University’s 1987 NCAA championship and he asked me to step out of my room so he could pour a beer on my head (so as not to get beer all over the floor) like they do after championships. A memory I will always cherish.”

I always enjoyed our time hanging out and swapping life stories. Our last lunch was Bates burgers, fries, and milkshakes at his rehab facility downtown after his surgery. Even then he was funny, upbeat, and fun to be around. My sincere condolences to Bob’s family. I will miss my friend.”
