He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Rankin and Rose Rankin; and his brother Lynnwood Rankin. He is survived by: his wife Linda Rankine; and his brothers, Ron Rankin and Tom Rankin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
