She was predeceased by: her parents, Sidney Phare and Emily Phare (Dunstan); her husband Carl O. Nelson; and her son Byron. She is survived by: her children, Carol Smith (Dan) and Vincent Nelson (Kerry). She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, 120 N. Front Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
