He was predeceased by: his sister Donna Crandall. He is survived by: his wife Christine Wiik; his stepdaughters, Becky Torretti (Luigi) of Quebec and Mindy Sager of Marquette; his grandchildren, Annunzio, Giancarlo and Lidia; his brother Richard Wertanen (Karen) of Florence, WI; and his nieces and nephews, Scott Wertanen (Kathy), Pam Smith (Howard), Brenda Gelhar (Scot), Chad, Amanda Crandall and Wendy Donnay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in his memory to the Salvation Army.
