He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara; his parents, Neil Walker and Irene Walker; and his siblings, Monta, Gordon, Dean, Winifred and Roberta.

He is survived by: his children, Dianne Ward (Bob), Greg Messerschmidt (Angela), Jim Messerschmidt (Bobbie Cummings), Todd Messerschmidt, Laura Trojanek, Tamara Lukima (Russ) and Terry Messerschmidt (Kim). He is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
