He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Nelson and Agnes Nelson (Larson); his wife Lora "Mac" Nelson; and his brothers, Duane Nelson, Gerald Nelson and Bill Kamen.
He is survived by: his children, Pat Greene (Marty), Bruce Nelson (Joy) and Paula Davidson (Bill); his grandchildren, Stacie Golaszewski (Peter), Christy Schachtell (Stefan), Kim Deadman (Roy) of London, England, Kate Durbin, Kara Roman (Andrew) of Grand Rapids and Olivia Davidson of Chicago; his great grandchildren, Jack, Ford Golaszewski, Ohtli Schachtell, Freya Deadman, Atlas Durbin and Octavia Schachtell; his siblings, Ray Nelson (Barb), David Nelson (Ruthann), Linda Brigham (Jim) and Carl Nelson (Marion); and his cousin Ken Larson (Jeanie). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
