He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter D. Phillips and Christina May Phillips (Taylor); his wife Janet Millis; his son-in-law Dennis Heaton; his siblings, Walter, Robert, William, Rudy Phillips and Flossie VanAvery; and his close friend Esther Trojanek.
He is survived by: his daughter Susan Heaton; his granddaughter Andrea "Andi" Adamson (Chad); his sisters, Dorothy Bush, Barbara Benton, Donna Maxwell (Donald) and Dianna Ockaski; and his close friend Sheila Cooley. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
