He is survived by: his son Chip Schmiege (Jeanine); his grandchildren, Renee Juusola (Kyle), C. J. Schmiege (Jen), Tricia Schmiege (Jake Grabowski) and Tim Schmiege (Brooklynn); his great grandchildren, Kaiden, Michelle and Baby Wren Schmiege; his brother Don Schmiege; and his friend Ines Gasaway.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Cross or the Shriner's Hospital for Children in his memory.
