He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Johnston and Shirley Johnston (Martin). He is survived by: his wife Paula M. Springsdorf; his sons, Sean Johnston (Alexis) of Muskegon, Nathan of Muskegon and Dustin Johnston of Muskegon; his grandson Alex Peltier; his siblings, B. J. Johnston (Melissa) of Canton, Mississippi and Sandra Page (Ricky) of Canton, Mississippi; his nephew Scott Wiltcher; and his nieces, Tiffany Love (Adam), Cheyenne Herring (J. R.) and Sydney Johnston.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and social distancing, a celebration of Marty's life will be held later in Mississippi.
