He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Cornelius Wilterdink and Olive Wilterdink (Thompson); his wife Lois Chandler; his children, Shawn Wilterdink (Natasha) and Angela Messerschmidt (Greg); his stepchildren, Marvin Lewis and Danielle Willis (Don); and his brothers, Lyle Wilterdink and Laverne Wilterdink (Joan). He was also cherished by 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
