He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Spytma and Marie Spytma of Muskegon; his wife Joyce Spytma; his son Joseph "Joey" Spytma Jr.; his grandson Dennis Pierce; and his siblings, Edward, Francis, Michael Jr., Mary, Catherine, Gertrude, Evelyn, Angeline, Veronica, Tressa Ann and Rosemary.

He is survived by: his children, Anita Wyman (Danny), Susan Sikkenga (Scott), Ronald Lee and David Lee (Jean); his grandchildren, Nakia Pierce, Aleisha Woods (Brian), Beckie Wilburn (Tim) and Adam Sikkenga (Shayde); his great grandchildren, Tyler, Dylan, Kierstin, Adeline and William; his great great grandchildren, Brantley and Zoeey; and his sister Eleanor. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
